With an average growth rate of 20% / year and a turnover of up to billions of USD, logistics has become a promising service industry in Vietnam.
Vietnam is considered a country with natural conditions and extremely favorable geographical location to develop the logistics industry with over 17,000 km of asphalt, more than 3,200 km of railways, 42,000 km of waterways, 266 seaports, 20 airports and hundreds of international border gates, large and small countries located along the length of the country.
Prospective service industry
Although it has only appeared in Vietnam since the introduction of the commodity economy, especially when the trade exchange between Vietnam and other countries in the world develops, the logistics industry has been and is gradually making a huge contribution to I joined the economic development of the country. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, logistics services in Vietnam account for 15-20% of GDP (about 12 billion USD) - a very large amount and associated with the entire circulation and distribution of the economy. If only the most important step of logistics is the transport, which accounts for 40-60% of the cost, it is already a huge service market. This shows that logistics services are of great importance and this cost reduction will contribute to creating a competitive advantage for goods and services of domestic enterprises.
The industry's growth rate in recent years has averaged 20-25% / year and currently Vietnam has over 800 logistics enterprises operating with different sizes. The potential for developing logistics services is even greater when Vietnam's trade turnover is considered to be the fastest growing in the region at a rate of nearly 18-20% / year and a turnover of nearly $ 130 billion.
According to the World Bank, in 2009, Vietnam ranked 53rd in the world and 5th in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in logistics service performance. This is also the second time in a row that Vietnam has maintained its 53 position, even higher than some middle income countries (such as Indonesia, Tunisia, Honduras ...). In addition, as chair of ASEAN 2010, Vietnam is a leading country in ASEAN building a "soft" system in the development of the logistics sector. However, this is a necessary but not sufficient condition.
